Phipps," bound leather grip topped with a knight's head pommel, the steel scabbard with elaborate pierced mounts of silvered brass; "FCB" (Friendship, Charity, Benevolence) seen on scabbard and guard.

Handle with cross-in-crown encircled by the motto ''in hoc signo vinces''. Sheath engraved ''W.P. Dye'' with cross and crown metalwork. 39'' l. Also including a similar fraternal sword with cross-in-crown decoration. Sheath engraved ''C.S. Dana''. 38 1/2'' l. Both swords with surface wear scratches finish loss. W.P. Dye sword with discoloartion some rust. C.S. Dana sword with significantly rusted blade and finish loss on handle.

Kalamazoo, Michigan", coat with label for Thomas D. Wharton, matching blue trousers with white stripe; khaki brown Spanish American War tunic with blue stripe and trim, infantry jacket with first lieutenant epaulet bars, matching trousers, reputed to be made by M. C. Lilley & Co., Columbus, OH and owned by T. D. Wharton; generally good condition one button missing on pocket ; canvas bag, probably a mess kit, written in hand on back "Lt. T.D. Wharton, Company "A", 1st L.A. Regt.", 9 x 10 in. (closed), canvas with normal wear, holes and stains, losses to leather strap, (seven pieces). Accompanying lot muster roll dated 1898.
